Worship at Home – Two activities for all ages

Fire and stone

Materials: Candle and rock

Let’s reflect on the picture in 1 Peter of living stones.

As you come to him, the living Stone – rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him – you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house. for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life. 1 Peter 2:4-5

Right now we will light a candle if you have one, and if you have a rock or stone around you may like to place it beside it.

The light of fire reminds us of the nearness of God’s spirit. Fire without and within.
The stone reminds us of ourselves. Every stone holds stories.

While you watch the flame you may like to invite the Spirit to kindle the flame inside you – to blow on your heart.
And as you look at the rock you may like to ask God to hold you in his hand, like a stone, and let’s all rest together.

The music we will listen to in this time is an improvisation – a violin and piano making up a tune together, like God’s spirit and ours this morning.

Prayer flowers

Materials: Bowl of water, coloured pencil and these paper flowers.

Sisters and brothers in Christ,
God invites us to bring our doubts and fears,
our joys and concerns, our petitions and praise,
and offer them for the earth and all its creatures.
Take a moment now to write or draw on your prayer flowers, what ever you want to bring to God in this moment.
When you are finished fold the petals firmly in to the centre and float them in your bowl of water, representing the Holy Spirit taking our prayers to our Father.
If you didn’t print out the paper flowers, just hold out your hands and offer to God what ever is on your heart this morning.

Receive these prayers, O God,
and transform us through them,
that we may have eyes to see and hearts to understand
not only what you do on our behalf,
but what you call us to do
so that your realm will come to fruition in glory. Amen.
